If you have predators like racoons, also anything that can dig under. I would use 2 in welded wire not chicken wire. I lost an entire bunch of pigeons to coons using chicken wire. . They can reach in and pull them through the wire. Or dogs can dig under. I place chicken wire on outside along the ground fastened to my chicken tractor that goes about 2 feet out or so and made that I can roll it up to keep anything from digging under the tractor for when I need to move the tractor. Its hard for me living in a big predator area to keep chickens or pigeons. Now i have bantams and a duck. I just can't stand the idea of going out to a blood bath again. So I built it like fort nox. lol

Fun tip guys for that gallon jar...you know those plastic tubs you buy with fancy nuts in them with the screw on round top? Those plastic tops seal very well on the big gallon mason jars for that :) Found it out when moving and needing something to seal my 1 gallon kombucha jar for travel. Just a tip to maybe save someone some money, just have to pull out that lil paper round in it and wash it good!
